Overview


Building reliable GIS software depends on testing with reliable GIS data across a wide range of environments. The ArcGIS Maps SDKs DevOps team is looking for someone passionate about GIS data and infrastructure, along with an interest in DevOps tools and practices, to help create/maintain the GIS data and GIS infrastructure relied upon for testing the ArcGIS Maps SDKs.

DataOps brings together the principles of agile software development with the best practices of DevOps and applies them to data and data infrastructure. The goal of the GIS DataOps Engineer is to apply DevOps practices like automation, cross-platform scripting, reporting and alerting, and infrastructure-as-code, to the creation and maintenance of the GIS infrastructure and GIS data used for testing GIS software. This role combines the skills of a traditional GIS Systems Administrator with the tools and techniques of a DevOps Engineer. This an unique opportunity to work with an experienced DevOps team to learn and leverage industry-standard software development techniques and tools within the context of Esri’s GIS software platform to problem solve on a wide range of data-related challenges.

Responsibilities


  • Develop automation for deploying and administrating ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and RDMS instances (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) using DevOps tools
  • Develop automation for GIS data creation and GIS service publishing
  • Create frameworks for validating the health and consistency of the GIS data used for testing the ArcGIS Maps SDKs
  • Design and develop tools for helping other developers find and access GIS data
  • Assist developers in troubleshooting issues related to GIS data and testing

Requirements


  • 2+ years of experience with GIS data paradigms and GIS data creation workflows
  • Curiosity for exploring a wide assortment of platforms and technologies
  • Interest in automation and scripting cross-platform
  • Ability to clearly document work for others
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Bachelor’s in GIS, computer science, engineering, or related field

  • Esri Technologies: ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online ArcGIS Pro, ArcPy, ArcGIS Python API
  • Data Technologies: RDBMS (SQL Server, PostgreSQL)
  • DevOps Technologies: Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Git
  • Languages: Python, Bash, Powershell, SQL
  • Concepts: Configuration as code, idempotent automation

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$74,984-$128,544 USD
