Demystifying licensing for ArcGIS StreetMap Premium

By Sarah Osborne

When you are installing ArcGIS StreetMap Premium, you’ll see that there are two different ways to license.   You will use either a SDLIC file or a StreetMap Premium extension depending on which components you use.

In a nutshell:

  1. If you are using the file geodatabase for mapping layers or for the network, you need to use the SDLIC file.  This is true for both ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  2. If you are using the locators, you need to use the StreetMap Premium extension for either ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  3. If you are using the StreetMap Premium mobile map packages in ArcGIS Pro, you need to use the StreetMap Premium extension for Pro.
  4. Likewise, if you are using the StreetMap Premium mobile map packages in ArcGIS Runtime, you need the the StreetMap Premium extension for Runtime.
  5. If you are using Custom Roads, you need the StreetMap Premium extension to build and use the network.

I encourage you to take a look at the following place in the StreetMap Premium documention:  StreetMap Premium licensing requirements.  The page provides an overview and flow charts to help you determine when to use the SDLIC file or the StreetMap Premium extension.
