The ArcGIS Geocoding Service continues to be an essential tool for users requiring accurate location data for visualization and analysis. This June, we are excited to introduce new functionalities that boost our service’s precision and expand its global reach.
These updates are specifically designed to improve the accuracy of geocoding results across various countries, assisting users in efficiently geocoding addresses, locating places worldwide, and leveraging the full suite of our geocoding service to meet all their geocoding requirements.
Enhancements in the June 2024 Release
- Point address improvements: Data updates have boosted accuracy in matching to locations with house numbers. Regions benefiting include Colombia, Croatia, Great Britain, Malta, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Suriname, and Turkey.
- Point of Interest (POI) geocoding: The ability to search for businesses and landmarks is now supported for South Korea.
- Routing (street side) locations: Available for most point addresses around the world, these may improve the accuracy of navigation workflows that use geocoding to define destinations. Please refer to the locationType parameter for more details.
- Subaddress geocoding: The ability to search for an apartment or unit is now supported for Belgium and Portugal.
API and Service Output Changes
When an invalid category value is included in a request, the request no longer results in an error. Instead, a responseInfo message is returned in the response which contains information about the invalid category values. Details can be found here.
