Make these ornaments please

By John Nelson

It’s that time of year when geographers the world over gather together in, let’s be honest, just slightly awkward office holiday parties. We dedicate 82-86% of our mental capacities to socializing with our colleagues over deserts and drinks, while the remaining 14-16% remain lasered right in on the massive geoprocessing task that is currently running and the last minute changes to the map legend the customer requested and the final_forRealz_lastOne_edit6.pdf that is currently being spit out by the giant printer in the hallway and it has to be perfect darn it because we’re almost out of cyan.

But, again, we are 84% present for this office holiday party. So what do we do while we nibble on the cookies Melinda brought in and sip the spiced cider contributed by Kai? You tackle a Christmas tree globe ornament craft, that’s what! Break out the scissors and tape and paper and whatever else you’ve got, and get to work constructing some holiday sphere—i mean cheer!

Here are 6, count them, 6 globe ornament crafts to choose from, if you’re in the right spirit and feeling the gumption to hold aloft a small model of the world that you built and say, BEHOLD, GAZE UPON WHAT I HATH WROUGHT.

So warm your toes by your computer’s processor fan and momentarily cast off the pixels of the digital realm and dive into a festive maker-mode with real life honest to goodness tactile materials and conjure up your own globe ornaments. Dazzle your fiends and family! Impress your colleagues! But most importantly, enjoy your holiday season and fill it with the joy of geography.

Love, John
