Description:
GeoMarvel recently partnered with the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH) to create an ArcGIS Hub site. The site hosts web applications showcasing benchmark and individual performance data for hospitals and hospital groups in the TORCH organization. The goal of this project is to help rural and community hospitals in the organization measure their performance in operations and finance compared to benchmark averages across the state. As with many projects, one of the first steps for this project was data cleansing and normalization to make sure that the data to be used for the web applications was consistent and had proper field types and values to be used for analysis. Next, GeoMarvel created a custom chart using the javascript library REACT to dynamically display a given hospital’s data and compare those values to the overall benchmarks in Texas. This step was crucial to being able to securely host all data for the organization without sharing individual hospital’s data with others. GeoMarvel configured a dynamic ArcGIS Hub site with embedded web applications and relevant underlying data for each of the individual hospitals and hospital groups. By controlling permissions, creating groups, and configuring sharing specific to TORCH’s needs, GeoMarvel utilized ArcGIS Hub to create dynamic data visualizations while using a group structure that allowed hospitals to see their own data and compare it to benchmark averages without allowing hospitals to access other hospital’s individual data, all while securely hosting all data in a central location. TORCH strives to help rural hospitals in Texas be successful and empower them with the ability to “deliver high quality healthcare” to rural populations. This web application allows rural hospitals to easily access their performance metrics and compare themselves to a variety of benchmark metrics across the state, in turn making valuable information easily accessible to each hospital, allowing them to make the best decisions for their operations and finances. These technical capabilities are the future for TORCH members to be able to quickly make informed decisions and continue to ensure that rural hospitals across the state can deliver high-quality healthcare to their populations.
