Description:
Web Map Viewers present spatial data in cartographic (map) form via the user’s internet browser, providing some basic spatial information manipulation capabilities. Microsoft Silverlight provides a cross-browser, cross-platform development environment for delivering engaging, interactive services for the Web and mobile applications. Silverlight is a free plug-in, powered by the .NET framework that is compatible with most Web browsers, devices and operating systems. The Compass Map Viewer is based on the Esri ArcGIS API for Silverlight, which allows integration of ArcGIS Server, Esri MapIt, and Bing Maps services and capabilities in a Silverlight application. Developers create interactive applications incorporating ArcGIS Server and Bing Maps resources, e.g. maps, locators, and geoprocessing models, plus Silverlight components, such as grids, tree views, and charts. Basic MapView Functionality • Zoom in/Zoom out of the map • ‘Grab’ and move the map • Pan left and right across the map • Go to specific coordinate locations (application dependent) • Display various information about the features identified on the map by the user • Measure distances and areas • Select areas on the map for retrieving information (application dependent) • Add additional tools for specific applications and functions Software Components openlayers - openlayers.org geoext - geoext.org ext - www.sencha.com/products/extjs/ MapServer - mapserver.org Python - python.org Silverlight - www.microsoft.com/silverlight/ Esri - help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/silverlight/
