MapObjects LT 2 Packed with New Features
MapObjects LT 2 will be a lightweight version of MapObjects 2, Esri's professional embeddable mapping component software. MapObjects LT 2 features new capabilities including new renderers, geometric objects, spatial search methods, statistics objects, an ODBC driver for Esri shapefiles, and enhanced map control events, properties, and methods. According to Bernie Szukalski, Esri's product manager for MapObjects, "No other royalty-free mapping component software comes close to offering anything as robust as the data support within MapObjects LT 2. We've also added lots of new features and functions to this upgrade. From the previous version (MapObjects LT 1), we've doubled the number of components that are now available."
Functionality that has been enhanced in MapObjects LT 2 includes map output, labeling, and the spatial query method. In addition, MapObjects LT 2 will ship with Esri's Data & Maps--a set of five CD-ROMs featuring ready-to-use data for the world, Mexico, Canada, and European countries as well as general and detailed data for the entire United States. "With more than three gigabytes of data, MapObjects LT 2 features the most extensive data sets available. This data is an excellent resource for immediately getting started adding mapping capabilities to your applications," says Szukalski. MapObjects LT 2 components can be used in any standard Windows development environment such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi, PowerBuilder, and others. Following the successful release of MapObjects 2, Esri now plans to offer a significant upgrade to MapObjects LT. To provide organizations with the most powerful and comprehensive collection of royalty-free mapping components, MapObjects LT 2 will include more than 20 mapping objects.
MapObjects LT 2 will offer direct support for a wide variety of native data formats including standard GIS formats (ArcInfo coverages, Esri shapefiles), CAD formats (DXF, DWG, and DGN), and a variety of image formats including GeoTiff, JPEG, and MrSID image compression.
