MapObjects Version 2.0 Is a Major Release

The new version of MapObjects, the world's leading embeddable GIS tool set, will include more than 45 mapping components.

According to Bernie Szukalski, Esri's product manager for MapObjects, "MapObjects Version 2.0 is a major functional release, making MapObjects the most comprehensive collection of GIS and mapping components and the obvious choice for GIS developers and anyone looking to embed GIS into their applications."

MapObjects Version 2.0 offers

• On-the-Fly Projection Capabilities--MapObjects data existing in different projections can now be projected into a common projection for display and analysis. In addition, any map layer can be exported into a new projection.
  


• Unparalleled Data Support--No conversion required-MapObjects Version 2.0 now offers direct support for the widest variety of native data formats including standard GIS formats (e.g., DWG, DXF, VPF, and CADRG).
  


• New, State-of-the-Art Geocoding Engine--The MapObjects geocoding engine has been completely updated to offer full-featured, fast, and accurate address matching capabilities including reject processing, match quality management, and batch processing modes.
  


• Enhanced GPS Management--MapObjects Version 2.0 now supports tracking not just for points but for lines and polygons, too. Also, new methods and properties make it easier than ever to manage and track GPS activities.
  


• Improved Data Handling--Database access and attribute handling have been extended to provide powerful record set management and handling capabilities including spatial and attribute filters to optimize performance. Developers can also now access the Spatial Database Engine (SDE) API directly from MapObjects applications.
  


• Robust Geometric Functions--MapObjects Version 2.0 now includes a powerful spatial geometry library for unions, intersections, and buffers.
  

MapObjects Version 2.0 components can be used in any standard Windows development environment such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi, and PowerBuilder. With the optional MapObjects Internet Map Server extension, you can also use these capabilities on the Web.

MapObjects Version 2.0 will be available in summer 1999. MapObjects users that purchased Version 1.2 on or after January 15, 1999, will receive a free upgrade to Version 2.0.
