Spring 2007

URISA's 45th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

URISA's annual conference this year will take place in Washington, D.C., August 20–23, 2007, at the Hilton Washington.

Plenary sessions will feature Hopeworks 'N Camden GIS students (www.hopeworks.org) and an important retrospective on the New Haven Census Use Study, which was announced 40 years ago at the 1967 URISA Conference in Garden City, New Jersey. This was an important event for GIS and for URISA. Many of the key players in that effort have retired to the Washington, D.C., area and will be involved in the session.

In addition to more than 60 breakout sessions and 12 preconference workshops, the conference will feature a two-part interactive stakeholders discussion, a one-day program track on K–12 education, and a half-day URISA Summit on Cross-Organizational Collaboration. Professional development sessions will be a conference highlight, along with an entire Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) track.

An extensive exhibition and ample networking opportunities will round out the conference. Visit the URISA Web site at www.urisa.org for complete conference information.
