More Than 10,000 Attendees to Explore the Amazing Changes in GIS

21st Annual Esri International User Conference: A Venue for Sharing

The Twenty-first Annual Esri International User Conference—the largest GIS conference in the world—is less than three months away. More than 10,000 GIS users enjoying a lunch break outside the San Diego Convention Centerprofessionals from around the world are expected to gather at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, July 9-13, 2001.

The conference offers an excellent opportunity for users of Esri software at all levels of expertise to share their real-world GIS experiences. Users will prepare and display maps, demonstrate user applications, and present papers covering a wide range of subjects, such as implementation, organizational issues, project results, or lessons learned. Hands-on labs with guided instruction will give attendees a close look at new software and new strategies.

Of special note, for the first time there will be moderated sessions on Location Services.

Hotel Information Center

To better serve our conference attendees, Esri has created a hotel information center. Our convenient online service allows you to view all of the available hotels and submit your reservation request immediately. Go to www.esri.com/uc and click on Hotel and Transportation.

Geography Network Challenge

The Geography Network Challenge is a contest created by Esri and the National Geographic Society to increase the awareness of Internet mapping services. The challenge welcomes organizations hosting ArcIMS live map services presenting map-based information or spatial solutions such as environmental or lifestyle mapping. Winners will be announced during the conference.

User Paper Presentations and Technical Workshops

More than 900 papers will be presented by Esri's user community. Paper sessions address 40 industry areas and countless applications of GIS and make up one of the most comprehensive collections of GIS papers in the world.

Technical workshops, led by Esri professionals, provide an excellent opportunity to learn new techniques for using a wide range of Esri software from the people who develop and support them. This year, we will be offering additional workshops on Friday morning before the closing session.

Internet and Multimedia Exhibition

Monday-Thursday, July 9-12, will feature the Internet and Multimedia Exhibition, which will allow creators of Internet mapping applications and multimedia map presentations the perfect opportunity to raise the profile of this highly effective and growing media.

Software Applications Fair

New this year is the Software Applications Fair for exhibiting application programs or customized Esri software products to meet specific requirements. These applications will be judged by peers attending the User Conference. (The Software Applications Fair is open only to noncommercial organizations.)

Preconference Seminars

More than 1,800 are expected to attend more than 30 preconference topical seminars the weekend prior to the conference week, Saturday and Sunday, July 7-8. You may choose from several half-day or full-day workshops on specific areas of interest. The registration for these seminars is separate from User Conference registration and requires additional action. Sign up for one or more seminars by visiting our Web site (www.esri.com/uc). The registration deadline is May 12, 2001.

Esri Education User Conference 2001

The Esri Education User Conference (EdUC 2001) offers three days of presentations, hands-on workshops, and other activities tailored to persons interested in GIS in schools, universities, libraries, and museums. This event immediately precedes the User Conference and includes special registration pricing that allows many education conferees to attend all or part of the main conference for little or no additional fees. For more information and online registration, visit www.esri.com/educ.

Map Gallery, Exhibit Pavilion, and Esri Showcase

The Map Gallery and evening reception will feature an amazing collection of maps created by Esri users for display during conference week.

The Exhibit Pavilion—a complete trade show with hundreds of hardware, software, and technology companies—will be even bigger this year.

Esri staff will be on hand to answer questions and give demonstrations for all Esri software in the Esri Showcase.

In addition, there are many social events, local tours, a special GIS Kids Camp with sessions for elementary and junior high school students, and sports activities.
