URISA Unveils New Web Site |
|
The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) debuted a new Web site (www.urisa.org) this year to provide an improved, more valuable experience for its members. Members now have an online community in which they can interact virtually with their fellow members around the world. Numerous discussion forums are included within the Member Space. Members may participate in general discussion forums (there is even a forum specifically for new GIS professionals to network) and a wide range of special interest groups (SIGs) where specific interests can be discussed. SIGs cover topics ranging from addressing and emergency response to multiagency cooperation and planning/urban issues. In addition to a more appealing design, the site also includes a new publications feature. For a minimal fee, URISA's Online Publication Subscription allows users to access PDF files of many of URISA's comprehensive publications from its many Quick Study publications to back issues of the Journal. As the Web site continues to develop, publications will be virtually updated and readers will be able to correspond with authors and the publications committee. URISA's Web site task force will continually work on improving the association's Web site. Expect online educational offerings and much more in the coming months.
