Introducing Updated User Types for ArcGIS

Expanding access to ArcGIS

User types are evolving to expand access to the capabilities, apps, and content your organization needs to do their work. The updated role-based user types extend capabilities, simplify administration, and allow you to scale as your organization’s needs grow.

Updates include:

Planning for the updates

Updated user types for ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise will be available to purchase in June 2024. The updated user types will be available in ArcGIS Online with the June 2024 update and in ArcGIS Enterprise upon upgrading to version 11.4 (expected November 2024) and later versions. Since ArcGIS Pro can be administered through ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online, the update will be reflected in the respective release.

Effective with the ArcGIS Online June update, Esri will deliver ArcGIS Pro Basic to all ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 to 11.3 customers who purchased Creator user types or received Creator entitlements included as part of the ArcGIS Enterprise purchase for the duration of their maintenance or subscription term.

Additionally, ArcGIS Excalibur and ArcGIS Mission Manager licenses will be available to assign to the Creator user type. ArcGIS GeoBIM will be available for the Contributor user type. Log in to My Esri to explore what’s new and to administer licenses.

Creator

Leverage essential capabilities to map, analyze, and manage data. Administer groups, members, and content for seamless collaboration. Create and manage work assignments for your mobile workforce. The updated Creator merges with the GIS Professional Basic user type and now provides access to ArcGIS Pro Basic.
Professional

Design and manage mission-critical systems of record in ArcGIS. Establish data standards that improve the quality and reliability of information across the organization. Professional replaces the GIS Professional Standard user type. It includes access to ArcGIS Pro Standard and everything in Creator.
Professional Plus

Create production-ready cartography and perform comprehensive analysis that scales to big data. Develop your own models or utilize pre-built machine learning and deep-learning models. Professional Plus replaces the GIS Professional Advanced user type. It now includes access to ArcGIS Pro Advanced, extensions, and everything in Professional.

Boost collaboration across your organization

Enable more users to leverage the power of ArcGIS securely within your organization with these user types. Additionally, continue to provide access to public viewing of maps and open data.

Mobile Worker

Obtain directions, communicate updates, and share location using field apps designed to connect the office with the field. Mobile Worker includes all features available in the Contributor user type.
Contributor

Empower users to review, make simple edits, and collaborate on projects using a variety of data, to ensure the organization operates with the most up to date information. Contributor includes everything in the Viewer user type.
Viewer

View your organization's private maps, apps, and dashboards to make better decisions and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and status updates.
