Dr. Nicholas Reksten
March 26, 2025 | 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.
Stories of environmental disasters and threats to ecosystems and human health are omnipresent, often feeling overwhelming. How can we make sense of what is happening to our planet and understand what it means for our society and communities to build a better world? Dr. Reksten, the Associate Professor and Chair in the economics department at the University of Redlands, will outline the Planetary Boundaries framework, which includes 9 key indicators of global environmental health—covering aspects like climate, biodiversity, ocean acidification, and the introduction of novel entities—along with their interconnections. He will also discuss the implications of using this framework to guide policy, governance, and community action, drawing from his research and teaching in this field. Linda Hamilton, Executive Director of Accelerate Neighborhood Climate Action Redlands (ANCA), will also share a vision for a climate-resilient Redlands that we can all work towards.
