Overview


As editor of ArcWatch, a monthly digital newsletter, you will be responsible for creating, editing, writing, and producing engaging content that showcases Esri technology and its applications. This role is pivotal in distributing high-quality content via email and publishing on a website, focusing on the innovative uses and development of Esri technology in support of business objectives.

Responsibilities


  • Write and Edit: Write and/or curate articles that showcase the use and advancements in Esri technology. Edit all content for each monthly issue. Enhance articles visually by obtaining and incorporating visuals and graphics. Ensure editorial standards, brand voice, and style consistency.
  • Collaborate and Communicate. Conduct interviews with customers, managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and other stakeholders to gather material for articles. Fact-check all content thoroughly and coordinate reviews by subject matter experts and legal advisors. Collaborate with design and marketing teams to align content with Esri’s broader strategy. Support the rest of the Publications group as needed.
  • Drive Results. Produce both web and email versions of each ArcWatch issue. Manage content production schedules to deliver each issue on time with minimal supervision. Leverage data and analytics and key results (OKRs) for editorial insights and optimization of the publication. Ensure alignment with larger business and marketing objectives.
  • Learn and Innovate. Keep current on Esri products, services, and events, as well as trends in the geospatial industry. Engage with Esri customers and users to understand their needs and preferences to better support them with tailored content.
  • Build Esri’s brand. Ensure all content is optimized for SEO and follows Esri's editorial guidelines. Contribute to the development and evolution of editorial processes and workflows.

Requirements


  • 3+ years of experience in editing or content creation, preferably in the tech or software industry
  • Bachelor’s in journalism, English, marketing, communications, or related field
  • Proven writing and editing skills, with a track record of editing complex technical material for clarity, readability, and impact
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with GIS technology, the software industry, or a demonstrated strong interest in learning
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in SEO, Content Management System platforms, and analytics tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Recommended Qualifications


  • A background in GIS, both theoretical and practical
  • Hands-on experience with Esri software
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Master’s in journalism, English, marketing, communications, or related field

Base salary is one component of our total rewards strategy. Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is
$66,560-$104,000 USD
