The Performance Engineering team is pleased to announce the availability of the new PerfTools Add-in for ArcGIS Pro, version 2.x and 3.x. This is a new release (Build 258) of a widely-used tool for assessing performance of ArcGIS Pro and its underlying spatial data in your organization.
Are you curious to know how long ArcGIS Pro takes to execute a GP tool with various different parameters, edit a feature class, render a particular bookmark or spatial extent, or play an animation? Or have you needed to monitor how long it takes to make a spatial selection from your underlying data? These are some questions that PerfTools allows you to investigate.
With PerfTools, a comprehensive scripting capability allows you to edit, run, and log performance scenarios as you make underlying changes to your hardware, virtualization environments, spatial data, or other key user workflows. You’ll soon be able to discover any performance ramifications, make adjustments, and re-run. To get you started, we’ve enclosed several sample scripts with the PerfTools download.
PerfTools Build 258 contains several usability and stability improvements. For the ExecuteTool command, all error and warning messages, if any exist, are output in standard output so users can easily see the cause of a failed Geoprocessing tool operation. Additionally, the PerfTools Script View pane now employs keyboard shortcuts while editing scripts in the edit pane (Ctrl+B – Browse, Ctrl+S – Save, and Ctrl+E – Execute). This simplifies editing and testing a script.
A complete list of new functionality available is contained within the “WHAT’S NEW.txt” that accompanies the Add-in in the download.
Note: There are now three versions of PerfTools contained within the download:
- for Pro 2.5.x – 2.6.x
- for Pro 2.7.x – 2.9.x
- for Pro 3.0.x and newer
Please select the version appropriate for your installation by selecting the applicable folder within the download ZIP archive.
After installing the add-in and opening Pro, Take a look in your Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\ArcGISPro\PerfTools folder. You should see a PDF there titled PerfTools_for_ArcGIS_Pro.pdf. This contains comprehensive documentation and sample code snippets.
