Esri and Regrid Partner on Premium Parcel Data Enrichments

By Lauri Young

Residential, single-family parcels

We are excited to announce that Regrid’s Premium Parcel Data now features select demographic, environmental, and elevation data, derived from open data sources and Esri.  This update enhances parcel data as a crucial resource to support analysis and decision-making capabilities across various industries, delivering significant value to our ArcGIS users.

What’s Included in the Update?

Demographic Data:

Gain insights into the people living in and around a property, including population density, housing affordability, growth, and other key demographics — helpful for analyzing trends and shaping strategies.

Elevation Data:

Elevation information that is essential for assessing risk, development and construction feasibility.

  • Terrain Ruggedness Index: Roughness rating is categorized in seven levels of land characteristics. This data uses a 10 meter digital elevation model (DEM) produced by Esri from the US Geological Survey’s detailed elevation maps.

  • Lowest – Highest Elevation Values: Elevation is calculated for each parcel using the minimum and maximum elevation points from the US Geological Survey’s detailed elevation maps, which are accurate to about 10 meters.

Environmental Data:

Datasets that are valuable for understanding access to power infrastructure, helping developers and planners assess the proximity of areas to the electrical grid, and is also critical for environmental impact assessments and emergency response planning.

  • Risk Rating: This data, from FEMA’s National Risk Index, assesses potential risks across various areas, identifying regions vulnerable to hazards such as natural disasters and other environmental threats.

  • Distance to Transmission Line: Modelled from the Department of Homeland Security’s Infrastructure Foundation, this dataset indicates the measured distance to the nearest electrical transmission line.

Using Premium Parcels in your work

The combination of these datasets enhances an ArcGIS user’s ability to run analyses of disparate data, making spatial relationships easier to interpret and understand. Users across various industries—including real estate, telecom, utilities, AEC, and state and local government—can benefit from this data in multiple ways.   Here are some key use cases:

  • Identify Growth Hotspots: Analyze population density and growth trends to identify areas with increasing demand for electricity, helping prioritize infrastructure development.

  • Plan Infrastructure Expansion: Assess the proximity of areas to the electrical grid and identify regions that may require new or upgraded transmission lines based on demographic growth and terrain characteristics.

  • Optimize Site Selection for Development: Use elevation roughness and population density data to find areas suitable for new residential, commercial, or industrial developments.

  • Improve Emergency Planning: Combine environmental data with population trends to plan for potential disaster response, identifying vulnerable communities and areas with limited access to power infrastructure.

  • Environmental Impact Assessments: Evaluate the environmental feasibility of building new infrastructure by considering population growth, terrain roughness, and proximity to transmission lines, ensuring minimal environmental disruption.

  • Enhance Resource Allocation: Allocate resources more effectively for energy distribution, identifying underserved or high-demand areas that may need additional infrastructure or support.

  • Assess Risk for Power Outages: Understand how natural hazards (like terrain roughness) and distance to transmission lines may affect power reliability in specific areas, allowing for better risk management and mitigation strategies.

Accessing Premium Parcels

There are several ways that you can start working with this data.

  • If you already have access to Premium Parcels, these new features are live and ready for you to explore.
  • Don’t have access? Contact Regrid to learn more about Premium Parcel Data.

Partnerships Matter

This update builds on the partnership, between Regrid and Esri, who work together to enhance the value of parcel boundaries for ArcGIS users. Whether you are a planner, analyst, or decision-maker, this update empowers you to explore the intricate connections between people, place, and the environment, demonstrating how effective relationships can transform data into powerful, actionable insights.
