Deprecation Notice for ArcGIS LocateXT

By Julia Smyth and Jamon Johnson

ArcGIS LocateXT is being deprecated.

LocateXT will deprecate on May 22, 2025, but the functionality will remain accessible through the core offerings of ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro.

Users are encouraged to transition to the integrated capabilities within ArcGIS. This transition simplifies their workflows previously associated with maintaining separate extensions. By adopting the core functionalities, users will benefit from a more cohesive and user-friendly experience, which underscores Esri’s commitment to continually improving their tools to meet the diverse and critical needs of their user base.

Why is LocateXT being retired?

ArcGIS LocateXT was initially created as an extension for ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise that enables users to quickly distill location information from massive amounts of data. Its sense-making capability automatically identifies location information inside large volumes of your unstructured data to bring geospatial information to the surface. The decision behind the deprecation is driven by the goal of having LocateXT’s functionalities integrated into ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. The primary goal of this integration is to enhance operational efficiency and streamline workflows by eliminating the need for separate extensions, thereby reducing complexity and potential delays in critical decision-making processes.

What is the recommended transition and next step?

The capabilities of ArcGIS LocateXT will be fully integrated into the core functionalities of ArcGIS products. Consequently, users currently using the ArcGIS LocateXT extensions for ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, or ArcGIS Enterprise must migrate to the Professional or Professional Plus user type. This migration is essential to ensure continued access to the integrated functionalities without the need for separate extensions, ensuring a more streamlined and cohesive user experience. Users with a LocateXT add-on tied to an ArcGIS Online user type will be able to renew their ArcGIS Online subscription until December 1, 2027. If the user is not ready to move to ArcGIS Pro 3.5 and is using the ArcGIS LocateXT extension through ArcGIS Online, they can keep using that extension until Dec 1, 2027. Once the user updates to ArcGIS Pro 3.5, they will need to migrate to Professional or Professional Plus user type.

What will happen to my existing ArcGIS LocateXT extension?

If a user has a perpetual license with maintenance, LocateXT can continue to be used until the retirement of ArcGIS Pro 3.4 and ArcGIS Enterprise 11.4 on December 1, 2027.
