GIS has all of the cool stories; telling those stories is the most fun thing to market.  – Sarah Alban

Sarah Alban, Director of Marketing for Eos Positioning Systems (Eos), joins us for a conversation about her geospatial journey and how she turned an educational background in journalism into a rewarding career in GIS. Her experience is intriguing, and she brings her measured, humble presence to the episode in such an interesting way.

Sarah loves her job. I mean, she reallyloves it. And she is an amazing fit for her marketing role as well as at Eos. She has the opportunity to work with customers in many different industries, collecting their stories to write and document successes for the Eos product suite.  What she loves most is the people element, especially getting to know them and working hand-in-hand as they cultivate a meaningful and memorable story that will resonate with readers. We talked about how sharing these stories (including those of our podcast guests) truly enables GIS as a field of study and as a technology to continue to grow. We spent time discussing the importance of the people behind the technology — and how those people are ultimately the drivers for innovation and progression.

Sarah is a kindhearted soul who connects with her audience in a truly unparalleled way. She resonates with people, and I think it is about how much she cares about them and their stories. She moves through our conversation with the wisdom, grace, and ease of someone with many more years in a journalism space. My conversation with Sarah was unique, fun, and insightful. She even flipped the script on me at one point and became the interviewer! We closed out with an exciting segment about Lassen Volcanic National Park; Eos had a really amazing case study there with their Arrow GNSS / GPS technology that is definitely worth a read.  I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation between Sarah and me as much as I did recording it with her.
