Share File Geodatabases for Download on your ArcGIS Hub sites

By Katie Thompson

There are several benefits to storing and sharing data with file geodatabases. While shapefiles have limited storage capacity, file geodatabases are practically unlimited. ArcGIS Hub now supports downloads of file geodatabases, making it easier for organizations to share volumes of data on their hub sites. By enabling your geodatabases for export, we also make sure they remain consistent with other downloads and update automatically.

Enabling export is as simple as clicking a checkbox. Just make sure that the file geodatabase you’re working with has been uploaded to your ArcGIS Online organization as a hosted feature layer.

  1. Sign in as an administrator to your ArcGIS Hub’s primary ArcGIS Online organization.
  2. Click Content.
  3. Find or upload a file geodatabase. Make sure it’s published as a hosted feature layer.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Export Data section.
  6. Click the checkbox to Allow others to export to different formats.
  7. Save your changes.
Once you’ve enabled export on the file geodatabase’s hosted features layer, it will be available for download as a file geodatabase. To download, visitors access the geodatabase from your site or through search, then they can click Download and choose to download the hosted feature layer as a File Geodatabase
View of a hosted feature layer's download page. Click Download, then Choose File Geodatabase to start the download.
