Top 3 Takeaways in Real-Time GIS from the 2024 Esri UC

By Dylan Molnar

A month has passed since the 2024 Esri User Conference (UC), but the buzz of inspiration still lingers, even as we’re catching our breath from the whirlwind of inspiring presentations, engaging conversations, and informative technical workshops.

As we eagerly await until the next Esri conference, the real-time GIS team has curated our favorite topics from this year’s UC. In the recap below, you’ll find valuable takeaways that can help you achieve your organization’s goals by leveraging real-time location data in your work.

Popular Real-Time GIS Topics at Esri UC 2024

Real-time GIS was everywhere at the conference, appearing in the safety and security summit, demo theater presentations, technical workshops, and showcase demos.

Here is what you need to know:

1. ArcGIS Velocity is coming to ArcGIS Enterprise

Esri President, Jack Dangermond, and Director of Product Management, Rob Elkins, announced in the plenary that ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise will be available as a private beta next year.

Currently, Velocity is available as an add-on for ArcGIS Online. Users have asked for an Enterprise version, so we are excited to announce the upcoming beta. Velocity for Enterprise will bring the same modern UI and scalability of Velocity for Online to self-hosted environments, and will be ideal for organizations who have on-premise requirements and need scalability. Velocity for Enterprise will be available for Windows and Linux.

More information will be available in the next few months.

2. New Real-Time ArcGIS Solutions

The ArcGIS Solutions team introduced and showcased two new templates powered by Velocity. Watch Center and Street Sweeping Operations are now available in the ArcGIS Solutions gallery.

Review Stats page of Watch Center app
Watch Center helps you understand recent statistical trends by alert category so you can passively monitor topics of interest.

The Watch Center Solution is for any organization with a need to track and monitor hazard events around assets, locations, or other points of interest. Emergency Operations Centers, Security Operations Centers, or Facility Operations Centers can track various sources, from traditional news to social media, for threats and hazards that could impact their organization. The Watch Center solution excels in real-time monitoring and information sharing. It provides capabilities for continuous monitoring of all-hazard events around places of interest, ensuring situational awareness at all times. With pre-configured hazard feeds from the Esri Living Atlas, it enhances the ability to monitor diverse threats efficiently. In addition to the free data from the living atlas, the Watch Center Solution supports a series of event feeds which can be purchased directly from Esri partners, allowing for a more comprehensive monitoring system.

To learn more about how the Watch Center solution can centralize all-hazards event monitoring, read the new blog introducing the solution.

The Street Sweeping Operations solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you plan and develop street sweeping schedules, manage a central repository of sweeper information, monitor real-time activity and service performance, and share sweeping status with the public.

Street sweeping improves the overall community appearance, reduces traffic accidents, and helps keep streams clear of trash and debris from runoff. The Street Sweeping Operations solution delivers a set of capabilities that help state and local governments develop street sweeping schedules, manage a central repository of sweeper information, monitor real-time sweeping activity and service performance, and share sweeping schedules and status with the public. These capabilities provide governments and organizations with tools to not only plan for adhering to the EPA’s regulations, but also for tracking in real-time and monitoring progress.

Visit our product page to learn more about how the Street Sweeping Operations solution provides the tools to keep waterways clean, roads safe, and improve the overall appearance of your community.

3. Partner Feed Types and Data Feed Providers

Partnering with data providers compatible with ArcGIS Velocity and ArcGIS GeoEvent Server offers numerous benefits. Our real-time GIS team has created a data providers page to help you identify compatible providers, whether you plan to use your own data or obtain data from a partner. This setup enables you to find suitable data sources or confirm compatibility with your existing data. We continuously strive to ensure compatibility with users’ preferred data providers, prioritizing development and support based on user feedback. Please take our short survey and let us know which data providers you are interested in connecting to.
