Brian Baldwin is one of the most engaging and interesting people you could ever want to meet. He is so passionate about GIS and finding his way to the Education Team at Esri seems to be a perfect fit with his interests and motivations. He is a Solution Engineer and helps develop new approaches, methods, and resources for educators who need resources for teaching our technology.  He loves that those teams help improve messaging for educators at various grade levels (K-12, as well as university) and hopes he can be have a positive contribution to spreading the word about GIS wherever he can. He is passionate about building up the next generation of students and actively participates in the schools around his community. He gives great suggestions for how we all can take a more active role in supporting the schools in our communities.

Brian has had an incredible geospatial journey. He adopted a perspective in his early career that enabled him to build foundational knowledge that would prove useful throughout his career. He wanted to be open to opportunities and gain experience solving geospatial problems along the way. He moved around the US, including Hawaii, serving in a variety of GIS positions. He saw from the customer perspective how the software could be used to solve real-world problems and built his GIS skills a bit more with each job he held. He used those skills and experiences to teach others and show new people how GIS could be useful to their needs. He picked up teaching along the way and has remained in an adjunct faculty position teaching GIS for several years.

I think Brian’s energy really comes through in our conversation. He is fun to be around and has really interesting perspectives. Those traits coupled with his curiosity and varied interests lead to a conversation that I truly didn’t want to end.
