From June 8-11, OpenStreetMap US hosted its annual conference, State of the Map US, in Richmond, VA, and as a Gold Level Sponsor, Esri attended and exhibited at the event.
With just over 300 attendees, and numerous presentations and activities, the event was a big success. The Esri exhibit was staffed by Deane Kensok, CTO, ArcGIS Content, and Steven Moore, Senior Product Engineer, who had swag and demos ready to engage with OpenStreetMap (OSM) mappers and partners. We featured a few maps and apps in our OpenStreetMap Online Org, including a Story Map and 3D Basemap Preview.
The engagement was very informative and several attendees were delighted to see the OSM data presented in 3D, as well as a live replica of OSM data published as Esri-hosted feature layers. Many attendees were also interested in how they could engage with GIS orgs to help improve OSM data, which will be the subject of an upcoming blog article.
Esri also co-presented with Meta on the session, “Adding Data to OSM through Esri”. The session described the tools and procedures that Meta has built to improve OSM data, featuring the recently enhanced Rapid editor, and the process by which Esri is curating a collection of GIS open data that can be used for editing in Rapid (and JOSM).
It was a wonderful experience to participate in State of the Map US again this year! As we do more and more with OSM data in our platform, we will continue to support the OSM project and its community.
