If you have ArcGIS Pro and you use ArcGIS StreetMap Premium, did you know you can use mobile map packages (MMPKs) that come with StreetMap Premium? You might be thinking, why would I use a MMPK when I can use the data on the file geodatabase and locators that are also delivered with StreetMap Premium? Well, you can think of the MMPK as a more modern way to deliver the data.
The primary purpose of StreetMap Premium is to provide the reference data for map visualization, geocoding capabilities, and routing/network capabilities in an on-premises environment. Historically, data for map visualization and routing has been delivered in a file geodatabase format while data for geocoding has been delivered in locators. Guess what? Mobile map packages contain the same data in a single deliverable for mapping, geocoding, and routing! There are some advantages to using MMPKs.
- You can pick a mobile map package specific to your geography. The package is much smaller than the full file geodatabase and locator data sets. Not only that, but you can clip a MMPK to just your area of interest.
- Licensing becomes much simpler. All you need is the ArcGIS StreetMap Premium for ArcGIS Pro, and you’re ready to go.
If you are an ArcGIS StreetMap Premium user, give the StreetMap Premium mobile map package a try, and see what you think.
