Two themes dominated the attention of business leaders in 2024: AI and risk.

On the pages of WhereNext and in boardrooms worldwide, executives asked:

  • How can we deploy AI to accelerate and grow our business?
  • Where are we exposed to risk, and how are we managing it?

WhereNext’s most popular stories of 2024 show how the answers often overlap.

Through a realistic demonstration, “NextTech: Predicting Storm Impacts with Location Analytics, AI” reveals how companies anticipate the impacts of inclement weather on warehouses, data centers, office buildings, or stores. The key: a digital twin grounded in geography and powered by AI. (This article topped 2023’s charts as well; see sidebar.)

One of the world’s most recognized hotel brands takes a similarly sophisticated approach to risk, using geographic information system (GIS) technology to contextualize threats across thousands of properties. The WhereNext article featuring the company (see below) drew readers from more than 50 countries in 2024.

When WhereNext readers weren’t focused on AI and risk, they explored a diverse range of topics, from the IT mapping phenomenon to career paths and pop music icons. For a look at the articles and live events that captivated business readers in 2024, check out the snapshots below. (For a deeper dive, see 2023’s top stories.)
