Esri Wins Gold at Cannes Festival for Corporate Film

Short Production on COVID-19 Awarded the Highest Prize in a New Category

REDLANDS, Calif.—November 14, 2022—The images from an all-too-familiar past—of empty city streets, playgrounds without children, and a young boy holding a teddy bear while both wear surgical masks—set the stage for a 3:40 minute short film that begins with a narrator’s reminder to viewers: “As our world gets smaller, what happens somewhere else, hits closer and closer to home.”

The production from Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, won gold at the international Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards in October.

The short film recalls the need for answers during a time filled with overwhelming questions—Are we safe? Will there be enough supplies? How will they get here? How will we get to where we need to go?—and highlights the work behind the scenes by those using geographic information system (GIS) technology to develop solutions.

GIS in a time of COVID (or The Power of Smart Maps in Times of Crises) was awarded the highest prize in a new category this year: films related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards has been honoring corporate and documentary work since 2010 with gold and silver trophies in each category as well as an overall grand prix prize. This year, entrants from more than 40 countries submitted approximately 800 films, produced, or released between 2020 and 2022, for consideration.
