Esri Cooperation with the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for West Asia in Jordan

Dubai, U.A.E.— March 25th, 2019—Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today announced the signing of a Cooperation Framework with the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for West Asia (RCSSTEWA).

RCSSTEWA is affiliated with the United Nations through a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs, and it will operate closely with the Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre (RJGC), founded in 2012.

Located in Jordan’s capital Amman, the role of rcsstewa is providing in-depth education, research and application programs for university educators, as well as research and application scientists with an initial emphasis on space-based remote sensing, satellite communications, satellite meteorology and space sciences.

Esri has been a strategic partner to the RJGC since 1987. When establishing rcsstewa, RJGC was keen to include state-of-the-art technologies and products from Esri, being one of the leading 500 companies in the in the field of Air and Space, worldwide.

According to Sohail ElAbd –General Manager of Esri Middle East & Africa− through this framework of cooperation, Esri will donate a GIS LAB software covering the fields of geography, space and space sciences. Furthermore, Esri will make available its publications and scientific books about the topics of GIS, remote sensing and space sciences. The commercial value of this donation is estimated to be US $250,000.

Applying The Science of Where will help meet our objective of increasing the awareness and maturity of the geospatial structure in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as well as in the Middle East”, declared General Dr. Awni Al-Khasawneh, rcsstewa Director.

The signing of the Cooperation Framework between Esri and rcsstewa too place during the “Space Exploration and Innovation” Workshop, held today in Amman under the auspecies of H.E. Dr. Omar Razzaz, Prime Minster of Jordan.
