ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 Evaluation Software

Can I install the ArcGIS Desktop 9.x evaluation edition on a computer that has a full version of any ArcGIS software installed?
No. This includes any version of ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo) and ArcGIS Server. The only exception is ArcGIS Explorer.
If I am currently running ArcView 3.x, can I install the ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 evaluation edition?
Yes, you can run both ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 evaluation edition simultaneously. You do not need to uninstall ArcView 3.x before installing the ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 evaluation edition.
How long do I have to evaluate ArcGIS Desktop 9.2?
Once you have registered the software, you have 60 calendar days to evaluate ArcGIS Desktop 9.2.
Can I extend my evaluation of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2?
No, it is not possible to extend the evaluation period or reinstall the evaluation software on your computer once it has timed out.
Do I need to register the software before I can use it?
Yes, you need to register ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 and each of the extensions you wish to evaluate with ESRI before you can begin using any of them. You can register via the ESRI Web site, e-mail, fax, or mail.
Where do I find the registration number for the ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 evaluation edition?
The 12-digit registration number is located on the inside of the CD packaging.
What is the difference between a registration number and an authorization file?
The registration number is the 12-digit code located on the CD packaging. When you are ready to register, you will provide ESRI with that registration number, and we will in turn authorize your software for use with an authorization file. If you register via the Internet, this process happens automatically.
When does my 60-day evaluation of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 begin?
The 60-day evaluation begins once you have initiated the registration process and ESRI issues an authorization file. If you have installed the software but have not yet registered it, your evaluation time has not begun.
How can I see when the evaluation software expires?
You can see the expiration information by using the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator. From the Start menu, select Programs, select ArcGIS, and click Desktop Administrator. To see the expiration dates, click on the Availability folder.
I have just completed registering software using the e-mail option. Why doesn't the Desktop Administrator reflect the recent change?
The Desktop Administrator doesn't refresh until you click OK. Click OK and then restart the Desktop Administrator.
Can I use the registration number from the full version with the evaluation version software?
The registration number for the full version of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 will not work with the evaluation edition of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2.
How can I uninstall the evaluation edition of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2?
To uninstall, use the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Windows control panel. From the Start menu, click Settings, then Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Select ArcGIS Desktop Evaluation Edition (Demo Edition) from the program list. This will uninstall ArcGIS Desktop 9.2.
I cannot locate ArcEditor in my programs menu. What happened?
When you install ArcGIS Desktop 9.2, you are installing the ArcGIS Desktop applications ArcMap and ArcCatalog. ArcGIS is the name that appears in the Start program menu.
What are ArcMap and ArcCatalog?
ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 consists of two desktop applications: ArcMap and ArcCatalog. ArcMap provides data display, query, and analysis. ArcCatalog provides data management. When you want to begin using ArcGIS Desktop, you need to open each of these applications (Start>Programs>ArcGIS> then choose ArcMap and ArcCatalog). Once open, each application window reads ArcMap–ArcEditor; ArcCatalog–ArcEditor.
What is ArcReader?
ArcReader is a free, easy-to-use product that allows anyone to view, explore, and print published map files (PMFs). ArcGIS Publisher is an extension to ArcView that converts map documents (MXD) to PMFs. For more information on ArcReader, visit www.esri.com/arcreader.
Is there any functionality disabled in the ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 evaluation edition compared to the full version of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2?
No, the evaluation edition is the same as the full version of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 at the ArcEditor licensing level (with the exception of the SDK components).

* ArcGIS Desktop can be licensed at the ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo level. Functionality increases as you move from ArcView to ArcInfo.

ArcGIS Desktop Extension Evaluation Software

Which ArcGIS Desktop extensions are available to evaluate on this CD?
ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Schematics, ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, ArcGIS Publisher, ArcGIS Survey Analyst, ArcScan for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Tracking Analyst, and Maplex for ArcGIS are all available to evaluate for 60 calendar days.
How much time do I have to evaluate the ArcGIS Desktop extensions?
Once you have registered the extensions, you have 60 calendar days to evaluate the ArcGIS Desktop extensions. However, if you do not install the extensions within the first 60 days of your evaluation time period, you will not receive the full 60 days available for each extension because when the core ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 software expires after 60 days, so do all the extensions.
Can I extend my evaluation of the ArcGIS Desktop extensions?
No, it is not possible to extend the evaluation period or reinstall the evaluation software on your computer once it has timed out.
When does my 60-day evaluation of the ArcGIS Desktop extensions begin?
The 60-day evaluation begins once you have installed and completed the registration process for the ArcGIS extensions. If you are registering by e-mail, fax, or mail, the evaluation period begins when you initially contact ESRI. If you have installed the software but have not yet registered the extensions, your evaluation time has not begun. Even if you have registered ArcView 9.2, the 60-day extension evaluation period has not begun until you register each extension. You can install and register the extensions separately from ArcView 9.2.
Where do I find the registration numbers for each of the ArcGIS Desktop extensions?
When evaluating the ArcGIS Desktop extensions, you are not required to enter the registration numbers. During the registration process at the Evaluate the ArcGIS Desktop Extensions panel, check the boxes next to the extensions you would like to evaluate. The registration wizard will recognize the same registration number you used for registering ArcGIS Desktop 9.2. The 12-digit registration number is located on the inside of the CD sleeve.
How can I evaluate the ArcGIS Desktop extensions?
When you begin the registration process for ArcGIS Desktop 9.2, you will be prompted as to whether or not you would like to register the ArcGIS Desktop extensions. You can then select the extensions you would like to try, or you can choose to register an extension at a later date.
If I did not install the ArcGIS Desktop extensions during my initial installation of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2, how can I go back and install them?
If you did not choose to install the ArcGIS Desktop extensions during the initial installation of ArcGIS Desktop 9.2, they can be added later. We recommend that you install and register the ArcGIS Desktop extensions at the same time as ArcGIS Desktop 9.2. Your 60-day evaluation of the ArcGIS Desktop extensions only begins when you register the software and not when you install the software.
