You cannot install the ArcView 9.1 Evaluation Edition if you already have ArcReader or any other ArcObjects-based software installed. To install the ArcView Evaluation Edition, uninstall ArcReader or other ArcObjects-based software first.
Yes, you need to register ArcView 9.1 and each of the extensions you wish to evaluate with ESRI before you can begin using any of them. You can register via the Internet, ESRI Web site, e-mail, fax, or mail. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for complete details.
The registration number is the 12-digit code located on the CD sleeve. When you are ready to register, you will provide ESRI with that registration number, and we will in turn give you an authorization file so that you can activate ArcView 9.1 and the ArcGIS extensions. If you register via the Internet, this process happens automatically.
The 60-day evaluation begins once you have initiated the registration process and ESRI issues an authorization file. If you have installed the software but have not yet registered it, your evaluation time has not begun.
Use the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator. From the Start menu, select Programs, select ArcGIS, click Desktop Administrator. Click on the Availability folder.
If you install a full version of ArcView 9.1, you must uninstall the evaluation edition of ArcView 9.1 and the ArcGIS extensions and then install the full version of ArcView 9.1. The registration number for the full version of ArcView 9.1 will not work with the evaluation edition of ArcView 9.1.
Use the Add/Remove Programs utility in the Windows control panel. From the Start menu, click Settings, then Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Select "ArcView 9.1 (Demo Edition)" from the program list. If you are using Windows NT, click the Add/Remove button. This will uninstall ArcView 9.1.
The install guide installed with the software refers to the full version of ArcView 9.1. The full version of ArcView 9.1 provides three CDs which includes Sample Maps, that are not included with the evaluation edition of ArcView 9.1. The install guide is included with the evaluation software because it contains useful troubleshooting information that is also applicable to the evaluation edition of ArcView 9.1. For ArcView 9.1 evaluation edition-specific questions, view the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages]. Install Guide on bottom left is for the full version of ArcView 9.1. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for information regarding the evaluation software on this CD.
When you install ArcView 9.1, you are installing the ArcGIS Desktop applicationsArcMap and ArcCatalog. ArcGIS is the name that appears in the Start program menu, not ArcView.
ArcView 9.1 consists of two desktop applications: ArcMap and ArcCatalog. ArcMap provides data display, query, and analysis. ArcCatalog provides data management. When you want to begin using ArcView, you need to open each of these applications (Start>Programs> ArcGIS> then choose ArcMap and ArcCatalog). Once open, each application window reads ArcMap–ArcView; ArcCatalog–ArcView.
ArcReader is a free, easy-to-use product that allows anyone to view, explore, and print published map files (PMFs). ArcGIS Publisher is an extension to ArcView, that converts map documents (MXD) to published map files (PMF). For more information on ArcReader, visit www.esri.com/arcreader.
Yes, the ArcGIS extensions work with ArcView 9.1. They are called the ArcGIS extensions since they work with ArcView 9.1, ArcEditor 9.1, and ArcInfo 9.1, collectively known as the ArcGIS Desktop Products.
ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Schematics, ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, ArcGIS Publisher, ArcGIS Survey Analyst, ArcScan for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Tracking Analyst and Maplex for ArcGIS are all available to evaluate for 60 calendar days.
Once you have registered the extensions, you have 60 calendar days to evaluate the ArcGIS extensions. However, if you do not install the extensions within the first 60 days of your ArcView 9.1 evaluation time period, you will not receive the full 60 days available for each extension because when the core ArcView 9.1 software expires after 60 days, so do all the extensions.
The 60-day evaluation begins once you have installed and completed the registration process for the ArcGIS extensions. If you are registering by e-mail, fax, or mail, the evaluation period begins when you initially contact ESRI. If you have installed the software but have not yet registered the extensions, your evaluation time has not begun. Even if you have registered ArcView 9.1, the 60-day extension evaluation period has not begun until you register each extension. You can install and register the extensions separately from ArcView 9.1. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for complete details.
When evaluating the ArcGIS extensions, you are not required to enter the registration numbers. During the registration process at the Evaluate the ArcGIS extensions panel, check the boxes next to the extensions you would like to evaluate. The registration wizard will recognize the same registration number you used for registering ArcView 9.1. The 12-digit registration number is located on the inside of the CD sleeve. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for complete details.
When you begin the registration process for ArcView 9.1, you will be prompted as to whether or not you would like to register the ArcGIS extensions. You can then select the extensions you would like to try, or you can choose to register an extension at a later date. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for complete details.
If you did not choose to install the ArcGIS extensions during the initial installation of ArcView 9.1, they can be added later. We recommend that you install and register the ArcGIS extensions at the same time as ArcView 9.1. Your 60-day evaluation of the ArcGIS extensions only begins when you register the software and not when you install the software. Refer to the Evaluation Install Guide[PDF-53.9 KB, 17 pages] for complete details.
Yes, included on CD-A are thirteen tutorials: Getting Started with ArcGIS, Using ArcMap, Using ArcCatalog, Geocoding in ArcGIS, Using ArcGIS 3D Analyst, Using ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst, Using ArcGIS Publisher, Using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, Using ArcGIS Survey Analyst, Using ArcGIS Tracking Analyst, Using ArcReader, Using ArcScan for ArcGIS, and Using Maplex for ArcGIS. There is no tutorial available for ArcPress for ArcGIS. For help with ArcPress, please refer to the online ArcGIS Desktop Help system.
There are two components for each tutorial: the data and the instruction files. You will be asked during the installation process of ArcView if you would like to install the ArcGIS Tutorial Data. We recommend that you do so. Once the data is installed, follow the step-by-step instructions for the associated tutorial. The tutorials (pdf files) are located on CD-A. Run CD-A and click on Tutorials. You will see the list of available tutorials included on the CD.
You can begin the ArcGIS tutorial data installation later using the setup.exe file located on the ArcView 9.1 Evaluation Edition CD-B under the ArcView Demo\Tutorial folder.
The minimum requirements are a Pentium computer with a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, and approximately 1 GB of free disk space.
Additional requirements for ArcGIS 3D Analyst are a 1.5 GHz processor, additional disk space for cache files, and an OpenGL 1.3 or above video card with 32 MB of video memory or higher.
Please note: Disk space does not include the 50 MB of system drive space needed for installation (typically C:\WINNT\system32). The disk space requirement for each of the ArcView 9.1 components is provided in the setup program.
