ArcGIS Online is currently in beta. By joining the beta program you have free access to a number of services such as 2D maps, 3D globes, and reference layers that are cartographically rendered to support multiple scale display and are perfect for use as background or overlay layers for locally created and maintained datasets. You also have access to tasks that are built into ArcGIS Desktop applications, for example geocoding, place finder, and gazetteer, that you can use in conjunction with these services. ArcGIS Online is deeply integrated with ArcGIS and gives you immediate access to cartographically designed, seamless basemaps to which you can easily add your own data.
With ArcGIS Online you save time because you can focus on your mission-critical work and not on creating basemaps. You save money because you don't have to worry about data acquisition and maintenance. And since ArcGIS Online Content is hosted by ESRI, you don't have to make additional investments in hardware infrastructure and staffing to maintain data. ESRI updates the ArcGIS Online content annually or semi-annually so that you always have access to the most current data. You can quickly get started by visiting the ArcGIS Online Resource Center where you can access pre-published maps and globes, and reference layers, and browse templates, user guides, tutorials, and metadata. |
