ArcExplorer Web

ArcExplorer Web is a custom mapping application that lets you view one or multiple map services in your Web browser. You can also save the maps you create and include links to these maps on your Web site.

ArcExplorer Web supports Web Map Services (WMS) and ArcIMS services, which means you can access hundreds of map services available through Internet mapping sites such as the Geography Network, and view these services individually or together.

With ArcExplorer Web you can create beautiful, informative maps using geographic data from many of the world's leading publishers. Click a map below for a live version using ArcExplorer Web. Then click additional maps to view two or more map services simultaneously.

What It Does

Viewing map services using ArcExplorer Web, you can

• Add map services from any WMS or ArcIMS servers.
• Display one or multiple map services in a single map view.
• Set transparency of map services for overlaying multiple images.
• Save the maps you create.
• Create a link to your ArcExplorer maps on your website.
• Turn on/off map layers within a map service.
• Find places anywhere in the world.
• Find street addresses in the United States.
• Identify attribute information about features in a map service.

How It Works

ArcExplorer Web is a custom Web mapping application developed by ESRI. ArcExplorer Web can be used in a standard Web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) without any special plug-ins or applets. ESRI developed ArcExplorer Web using Java Server Pages (JSP) and JavaScript with most of the needed processing performed on the Geography Network servers. The application uses Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) to perform the image fusion when viewing two or more map services at once.

Make a Map

If you would like to make your own map

1. Launch ArcExplorer Web.
2. Next, click the Add Services button on the toolbar.
3. Choose a map server from the pulldown menu or enter the address of another map server. Click OK.
