Information Builders Delivers Next Generation of Location Intelligence

City of Los Angeles Chooses IBM DB2 9 Viper to Improve GIS
The City of Los Angeles, California, has selected the DB2 9 Viper data server to replace its existing database management system. DB2 9 was selected to increase performance and lower the costs of running the city's ESRI GIS, which provides the ability to store and access comprehensive geographic information for the Los Angeles area as well as Orange, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino, and other counties. The new capabilities of DB2 9 will help the city's IT staff fine-tune database performance as more applications are migrated to the new GIS repository, critical in helping to speed decision making.

ESRI and National Geographic Teach about Africa
National Geographic's MapMachine and ESRI's Geography Network will help hone students' skills in geography and geospatial analysis. The MapMachine, powered by ESRI technology, allows anyone to explore the earth through the creation of customizable maps at any scale. New Data in ArcGIS Business Analyst 9.2 Improves the Accuracy of Marketing Analyses
ArcGIS Business Analyst desktop software now includes ESRI's 2007/2012 demographic data update and segmentation, business, and shopping center data. This data update is the most current and accurate information about the U.S. population. The software innovations delivered at the 9.2 release, coupled with this update to the industry's best datasets, create the optimal business analysis solution: ArcGIS Business Analyst.

ArcWeb Services Flex API Now in Public Beta
The ArcWeb Services Flex application program interface (API) is now available as a public beta. Built using Adobe Flex 2, this API offers Web 2.0-style mapping capabilities and significant benefits for organizations looking to change the way they do business. These new offerings let developers focus much less on presentation and layout and spend more time on integrating content that is relevant to a particular business problem or end user workflow.

GCN, August 2007 — After the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the city's fledgling Wi-Fi network allowed rescuers to access the city's geographic information system, which uses ESRI tools. That access was crucial in getting maps to the command center set up along the Mississippi River banks.

New Orleans: The State of the City
Time, August 2007 — ESRI's 2005 and 2007 population data for New Orleans, Louisiana, was used as one of the sources to create this map[PDF] for the August 13, 2007, issue of Time magazine. The map illustrated an article about population changes in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.

ESRI International User Conference 2008 Call for Presentations
It's time to start planning for the 2008 ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC)! Abstracts are now being accepted for the conference, scheduled for August 4-8, 2008, in San Diego, California. Collaborating with your customers on a paper submission provides a unique way to showcase your products and services to the more than 14,000 attendees expected at next year's conference. Abstracts are also now being accepted for the Education User Conference and the Survey & Engineering GIS Summit, which will take place concurrently, August 2-5, in San Diego. The submission deadline for all abstracts is November 2, 2007. To submit an abstract for any of these events, visit Call for Presentations.
