Like other information outlets, the 2006 Washoe County Live Election Mapping Web site monitored vote counts, but it also used GIS to
give viewers the additional component of real-time updated maps at the voter precinct level. Viewers of the Live Election Mapping Web

GIS in Action
Khatib & Alami, ESRI's distributor in Beirut, Lebanon, demonstrates an unusual implementation of GIS: generating a family
tree. One of the main drawbacks of a typical hard-copy family tree is the density of information and the inflexibility of
updating and adding members. The ArcGIS advanced editing capabilities, with the possibility of selecting, moving, adding,
copying, and pasting, made data updating a flexible and enjoyable task.
