Auckland Regional Council and Auckland Regional Transport Authority Select Impress for GIS to Integrate SAP and ESRI
Impress Software, a leading provider of packaged integration applications, has announced that it has been selected by the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) in New Zealand to integrate their SAP and ESRI systems. ARC and ARTA will implement Impress for GIS, a solution that ensures consistency of asset information between SAP and ESRI and streamlines asset management processes that span both systems.

Geospatially Enabling Enterprise Asset Management Webcast with ESRI and IBM Maximo
On December 18, ESRI and IBM Maximo hosted a live webcast sponsored by Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News. The webcast featured presentations by Julio Olimpio, ESRI's IBM Strategic Alliance manager, and Ron Wallace, IBM Maximo, on how Maximo Spatial with ArcGIS allows you to reduce costs, improve service, optimize executive dashboards, and manage assets more effectively. GIS Day Open House at Safe Software Is Full of Surprises
Imagine you are listening to a guest speaker when the speaker is interrupted by a call notifying the audience that a 40-meter wave is heading for the nearest coastline. Attendees at Safe Software's fifth GIS Day open house were exposed to three simulated emergencies designed to both entertain and inform. Each emergency took a humorous approach and required Safe Software's extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) tools platform, Feature Manipulation Engine (FME), to be used on the spot to help plan an appropriate response by integrating data from a number of different sources. ESRI Announces Support for the Spatial Enhancements of SQL Server 2008
ESRI's ArcGIS 9.3 software, the next scheduled release of ESRI's ArcGIS suite, will take full advantage of the new spatial technology in the upcoming release of SQL Server 2008. With the November 2007 SQL Server 2008 community technology preview (CTP), Microsoft Corporation is extending the use and value of spatial technology by integrating it directly within SQL Server at no additional cost.

Latest Release of ArcGIS Explorer Now Available
ESRI recently announced the latest release of ArcGIS Explorer. The new version (ArcGIS Explorer 9.2 Build 440) includes more ways to customize maps, efficient methods of communicating information about features on custom maps, and instantaneous navigation to target areas around the globe. The ArcGIS Explorer Resource Center can help users find content such as maps and layers and includes a number of enhancements.

ESRI's ArcPad 7.1 Mobile GIS Software Now Available
ArcPad 7.1 and ArcPad Application Builder 7.1, the latest versions of ESRI's mobile GIS software for data collection and field mapping applications, have been released. ArcPad products are designed for various industries and organizations wanting to extend the benefits of GIS from the office to the field. The new enhancements in ArcPad 7.1 will help experienced users, as well as field personnel new to GIS, capture field data quickly and easily.

G-I-Yes on YouTube!
The Environmental Resource Management Division of the Watershed Protection and Development Review Department for the City of Austin, Texas, developed a song with lyrics adapted from a popular children's film. The song was presented at the beginning of Austin's GIS Day on November 14. See the video.

Earth Observation and GIS Industries Take Action against Climate Change
Planet Action is a nonprofit collaborative initiative founded in June 2007 by satellite imagery industry leader Spot Image and joined by ESRI as a founding partner. Its purpose is to encourage the earth observation industry and GIS professional communities to address climate change by supporting projects that investigate and assess climate change and its environmental impacts. By assisting in and funding projects that will support understanding and action on environmental impacts, the Planet Action initiative hopes to strengthen international cooperation and response to climate change problems.
