Esri Press Publishes Palms to Peaks: The Art of Janet Edwards

Book Provides Retrospective View of Renowned California Landscape Artist's Work

October 27, 2011

Edwards' signature printing process includes both etching and embossing.

Redlands, California—Palms to Peaks: The Art of Janet Edwards from Esri Press is the first published collection of work by this well-known California artist and printmaker. With a career that spans nearly half a century, Edwards creates paintings and prints that capture the history and natural beauty of the state. The book includes more than 60 full-color reproductions of her work, accompanied by descriptions and observations written by her husband Fred Edwards.

Mrs. Edwards has perfected a signature printing process that includes both etching and embossing. The embossing extends beyond the multicolored image of the etching and imparts an ethereal quality to her California landscapes. A description of this process is included in the book.

"My children grew up on the East Coast, seeing Janet Edwards' etchings and watercolors around our house as an evocation of the look and spirit of California," says James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic. "Her art is both realistic and figurative, powerfully conveying the landscape in which she has spent her working life. Redlands is fortunate to have been her home."

Janet Edwards' work is displayed in private collections throughout the United States. Fred Edwards is past president of the Redlands Art Association. He coauthored the book Redlands in the Postcard History series from Arcadia Publishing.

Barnes & Noble is sponsoring a book signing with Janet and Fred Edwards on Saturday, November 12, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in its Redlands store at 27460 Lugonia Avenue. A portion of the book sales from this event will be donated to the Redlands Art Association's Margaret Clark Art Education Endowment Fund.
