Redlands Forum Presents A Christmas Memory

November 30, 2010

Redlands, California—The December Redlands Forum features a special production of Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory, with performances by noted local artists Chris Beach and Sally Norton. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Matt Coleman, Wendy Hunt, and Chad Villareal. This is a special holiday event for the whole family with live music and sound effects and heartfelt storytelling.

The program will be held in Redlands, California, at the Esri Conference Center, 380 New York Street, on December 16 and 17 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Register now to guarantee a seat at esri.com/redlandsforum.

Truman Capote wrote short stories, novels, plays, and nonfiction. Many of his works are recognized literary classics, including the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958) and In Cold Blood (1965), which he labeled a "nonfiction novel."

A Christmas Memory is Capote's masterful short memoir. Set in rural Alabama during the Depression, it recalls Capote's unique childhood friendship with his elder cousin Miss Sook Faulk. The unlikely pair would scrape together what little money they could find—mere pennies—and use it to bake fruitcakes. These were then mailed as presents to acquaintances around the world. The memory of that friendship—depicted in this live readers' performance—celebrates the power of love between generations and the spirit of giving.

Redlands Forum presentations are sponsored by Esri and the University of Redlands through the university's Town & Gown organization. To learn more about upcoming Redlands Forum events and speakers, visit esri.com/redlandsforum or call 909-748-8011.
