Mark McCoy Joins ESRI as Insurance Industry Solutions Manager

Redlands, California—ESRI, the world leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, announces Mark McCoy has joined ESRI as the insurance industry solutions manager. With 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, McCoy brings a wide array of skills to this position.

"Mark brings a unique perspective to ESRI," says Simon Thompson, commercial business industry manager. "As an insurance executive with a couple of decades' experience across multiple product lines, Mark implicitly understands the business and technical needs of users in this demanding marketplace."

Having spent his career working in various departments at a single major insurance carrier, McCoy has seen the industry change through emerging technology and new customer requirements. While serving as a product manager, he led underwriting teams that developed processes and technology solutions enabling more effective risk mitigation and exposure management strategies. As an underwriter, McCoy completed research on the applicability of GIS for the company that led to the implementation of a solution that the company continues to benefit from today.

McCoy's experience with research, underwriting, and project management is a welcome addition to ESRI's commercial business industry team. "The general insurance industry is undergoing many changes, from newly implemented regulations to companies reducing overhead," says McCoy. "This reengineering and business transformation requires a smart way to define cost savings, and GIS is the right platform to do this. GIS creates a standardized approach to the way any insurance company models, visualizes, and analyzes insured assets. I have firsthand knowledge of how it can help companies flourish by providing the necessary tools to manage exposure to loss while successfully competing in an increasingly demanding marketplace. I'm looking forward to applying this to enforce ESRI's position as market leader."
