Norwegian Air Traffic Control Services Company Awards Contract for New Aeronautical Charting System to ESRI Affiliates

Redlands, California—A consortium led by ESRI business partner CGx AERO in SYS of France and including ENAC (France) and Geodata (Norway) has been awarded an international tender launched by Avinor AS for its Procedures for Air Navigation, Design and Aeronautical (PANDA) charting system.

Avinor is a state-owned limited company that is responsible for air traffic control services in Norway. The company owns and operates 46 airports throughout the country including 14 that are in association with the armed forces.

PANDA will be Avinor's primary system for creating aeronautical charts; designing flight procedures (PANS-OPS); and conducting geospatial analyses, calculations, and transformations related to air navigation services.

ESRI's ArcGIS software implementation includes ArcGIS Desktop and the ArcGIS 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst extensions as well as ArcGIS Server. In addition, Avinor selected ESRI's Production Line Tool Set (PLTS) for ArcGIS—Aeronautical Solution for the management of database-driven charting products compliant with Avinor standards and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 4 standards. Aeronautical Solution will be used for chart generation, chart updates, and workflow management throughout the enterprise.

Comments Brian Cross, manager of ESRI's aeronautical solutions, "PLTS for ArcGIS—Aeronautical Solution will provide Avinor with the ability to make geographic information system (GIS)-based, database-driven Annex 4-compliant charts. By centralizing aeronautical information management, the software's true database-driven updating capabilities will help streamline the chart updating process, and its Web-based workflow management application will provide end-to-end enterprise management of the system."
