May 16, 2007 Premier GIS Event of the Year Offers Something for All Levels of GIS UsersThe ESRI International User Conference Comes to San Diego with New ContentRedlands, CaliforniaThe largest geographic information system (GIS) event of the year rolls into San Diego, California, June 18–22, hosting more than 13,000 people from 120 countries. The 27th Annual ESRI International User Conference will introduce new components, creating a learning experience for all levels of technology users. For industry-specific direction, new Industry Focus Sessions will investigate how technology is defining the path for tomorrow in a range of areas, from homeland security and global health to tomorrow's transportation system and government services. The new Concepts of GIS Sessions delve into the basics of the technology including new trends and the core elements of GIS. Those new to GIS will learn how to leverage their GIS investment by understanding the key aspects of the software and how it can be customized for their specific needs. Attendees with more technical needs will have ample opportunities to learn about the latest developments in GIS. Hands-on technical workshops, led by ESRI programmers and project managers, give insight on particular software and extensions. Topics include a range of critical areas from the ESRI Developer Network (EDN) and enterprise systems to server GIS and systems management. Technical Keynote User Presentations examine ESRI software's newest capabilities. David Maguire, ESRI director of corporate product planning; Scott Morehouse, ESRI director of software development; and Clint Brown, ESRI director of software products, offer their extensive experience in three separate sessions covering modeling with ArcGIS, modeling geographic information, and the future of GIS in digital mapping. The conference Plenary Session will offer a dynamic look at the current role of GIS in society and give a glimpse of what's to come. Wangari Maathai, winner of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize and world-renowned environmentalist and social activist, will present the conference Keynote Address. Maathai will take attendees on a journey through her life as a dedicated environmentalist, civil society and women's rights activist, parliamentarian, and author.
