This map formulates a part of the annual forest development plan (FDP) for Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd., Queen Charlotte Islands Timberlands Unit. Represented are projected logging areas and the existing regeneration status of the forest. On inspection, the transition from the old-style large clear-cut to a much smaller variable retention style of harvest area, which mimics more closely natural forest openings and disturbances, can be seen. Another feature of the map that gives an insight into modern forest engineering is the smaller black outlined harvest areas that are developed from the red proposed areas. The map atlas is one of 51 pages (36- by 48-inch sheets) in a map atlas, which accompanies an FDP. The FDP is submitted to the British Columbia Ministry of Forests for approval of harvesting proposals under the forest practices code. The author would like to acknowledge the contribution of Dave Trim, unit planner of the Queen Charlotte Islands Timberlands Unit, Weyerhaeuser Company Ltd. |
