Metro Washington, D.C., CitiMap

The Orlando Vicinity map and the Metro Washington, D.C., CitiMap were derived from AAA's highly detailed nationwide ArcSDE database. All AAA GIS maps contain proprietary information supplied by AAA's Travel Information department and are designed to meet the touring needs of its members. GIS cartographers generalize the spatial data for each map product using rules for specific map types and scales. The Metro Washington, D.C., CitiMap provides detailed city-level coverage of the Washington, D.C., area including the beltway. The AAA Orlando Vicinity map illustrates the data presentation flexibility inherent with the scalable data within the AAA GIS database.

AAA has been producing quality maps since 1911. AAA GIS/Cartography incorporates traditional cartographic skills, automated production processes, and a multilayered GIS database to produce more than 44 million road maps annually for the association's 42 million members. The AAA GIS map production ArcSDE master database contains more than 50 GB of data and supports cartography and other electronic applications. Edits are made only in the master database, and cartographic edits are made to product-specific layers. Individual map views have custom projection parameters.
