NewsArcGIS Marine Data Model Coastal GIS 2003 Proceedings Now Available Volunteer Divers Map Shark Habitat Upcoming EventsAtlantic Coastal Zone Information (ACZISC) Meetings White Water to Blue Water: Wider Caribbean; March 21-26 The White Water to Blue Water: Sustainable Development Initiative, developed at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa, is underway focusing on the wider Caribbean. The initiative promotes an integrated approach to watersheds and marine ecosystems management. The Caribbean conference and training institute will facilitate partnerships, exchange best practices, and encourage innovation. GIS Research United Kingdom; April 28-30 The GIS Research United Kingdom (GISRUK) conference series acts as a focus for GIS research in the United Kingdom. Primarily aimed at the academic community, GISRUK promotes active collaboration among disciplines. This year's conference focuses on three themes: GIS for environmental decision making, grid computing and GIS, and health and risk applications of GIS. For further details e-mail gisruk@uea.ac.uk. Marine Advance Technology Education (MATE); July 1-July 9 The Marine Advance Technology Education (MATE) Center offers two summer classes for faculty development. The ROV class is for designing and building curriculum that is aligned with the country's workforce needs. The GIS and Marine Science: Using GIS to Model Marine class focuses on marine environment, marine technology, and applications of GIS. The priority screening deadline is April 5, 2004. MEDCOAST Institute Mediterranean and Black Sea Regions; August 31-September 14 Mediterranean and Black Sea Regions Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) offers an international GIS training program about integrated coastal management. Curriculum addresses ICM issues, sustainable development, coastal tourism, coastal water quality and litter, remote sensing and GIS, environmental economics, and more. Coastal and Estuarine Habitat Restoration; September 12-15 The 2nd National Conference on Coastal and Estuarine Habitat will meet for the purpose of advancing the knowledge, pace, practice, and success of coastal and estuarine habitat restoration. The conference will address habitat restoration in coastal and estuarine areas of the United States, including the Great Lakes region, as well as international initiatives and issues. Littoral 2004; September 20-22 The Littoral 2004 theme is Delivering Sustainable Coasts: Connecting Science and Policy. This major European event attracts an international audience of coastal researchers, managers, practitioners, and industry leaders. |
