Volume 21: GIS—Communicating Our World

Vermont Transportation

Vermont's National Highway System Analysis Map—Increasingly, GIS is a contributor to the decision-making process at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). The technology can be used to quickly show areas of interest accompanied with different types of data. Average daily vehicular and truck traffic, roadway sufficiency ratings, pavement condition ratings, high-crash locations, and structurally deficient bridges are just some of the conditions that can be mapped.

Volume 20: GIS—Helping Manage Our World

Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's Multimodal Transportation Plan—GIS technology was used to capture, digitize, rectify, analyze, and finally produce accurate network maps. The maps integrate three major transportation systems: (1) Urban Train, (2) Metropolitan Bus Authority, and (3) Public Cars Transportation.

Volume 19: GIS—The Language of Geography

Liberec, Czech Republic

Public Transport Optimization in the Liberec Region Project—This map from Liberec, Czech Republic, shows the number of persons on each bus stop within a specified time. It is one of four maps used to evaluate current railway and bus transportation systems.
