The ORION Family of Mapping Applications

Plant Equipment, Inc. (PEI), is a technologically driven company dedicated to improving telecommunications functionality for mission critical call centers. During the past three decades, PEI has developed a family of 911 telecommunications technologies that have consistently set industry standards. click to enlargeORION is a family of geosolutions that help call centers locate, dispatch, and track incidents in progress and more. Introduced in 1999, the ORION family of mapping applications leads the public and private safety industries in features and functionality.

ORION MapStar is a comprehensive and scalable mapping solution designed to reside onboard a 911 telephone system such as VESTA from PEI. It can also serve as an adjunct to a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system that does not have mapping. Built on the powerful Microsoft Windows and ESRI MapObjects platform, MapStar is easy to learn and use. It features a configurable multiwindow interface and convenient toolbar that allow an agent to access and process information with simple mouse and keyboard commands.

ORION CADStar is a sophisticated CAD application designed specifically for small- to medium-sized PSAPs and dispatch centers. Its map-centric design deploys a map display engine as an integral component of the real-time CAD application. CADStar's intuitive "Information on Demand" graphical user interface enhances operator performance, reduces training requirements, and speeds system implementation.

ORION MapManager is an extension of ESRI's ArcView that allows users to create and maintain a digital Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) database. It was designed to eliminate duplicate activities associated with updating map set, MSAG, and CAD databases. Users can build unique data sets that aid call takers, dispatchers, and responders. MapManager automates the comparison of the digital map to the tabular MSAG.

ORION MobileData is a comprehensive GIS-based mobile data system. Built on the proven Windows client/server platform, it utilizes leading edge wireless and GIS technology and features simple click to enlargetouch screen graphics. ORION MobileData provides law enforcement and fire agencies with easy access to a wide range of information from dispatch logistics and information to state/NCIC, RMS, DMV records, local database information, and more.

Other members of the ORION family include ORION RMS, a geocentric records management system for police and fire agencies; ORION Field Reporting, a module for ORION RMS that allows officers to access RMS from the field; ORION MapMobile, a simple onboard map display for emergency units; and ORION DataSync, a networked application that synchronizes map data updates across a LAN or WAN.
