Fugro-Inpark B.V. is a Netherlands-based, independent engineering and consultancy company which offers expertise and project support in the areas of geographic information systems and their applications, laser altimetry, photogrammetry, subterranean infrastructure, telecommunications and civil engineering.

CableWork
CableWork is an application written for Fugro's Marine Survey Division to manage submarine telecom cable data, stored in an Oracle database (CableDB). CableWork is running on the Windows (NT) platform. Its principal purpose is to load so called Route Positioning Lists (RPL files) into the cable database, in order to visually verify and clean the data using QC tools and to provide special tools to export the cables. The main functionality of CableWork can be summarised as follows:

Import cable information (attributes and co-ordinates) from so called RPL files and store the data in an external database (ORACLE).
Fetch information from the external database and export a cable as RPL file.
Select a cable for removal from map and database.
Produce shape files from the co-ordinates in the database.
Produce Access tables for DGN generation through CIMP (SmartChart).
Basic GIS functionality: ZoomIn, ZoomOut, Fit, ZoomToSelection, Pan and Layer Control.
Browse the cables map (segments and points) and display attribute information from spatially selected cables. Possible selections: point selection, rectangle selection, and polygon selection (inside and crossing or inside only).
Display the cable profile, if the z value is available.
Editing facilities.
Possibility to change datums at cable segment level.

CableWork uses Component GIS technology: it comprises an ESRI's MapObjects GIS component with a Tree Control and Database View component from Microsoft. This results in a familiar look and feel. CableWork was built using Visual Basic as programming language and XML technology.
