Volume 22: GIS—The Geographic Approach

Missing Infrastructure by Elementary School AreaMissing Infrastructure by Elementary School Area —The Chula Vista Elementary School District is the largest K–6 district in the state of California. The map shown here was produced for the Engineering Department’s Infrastructure Services Division. It is responsible for identifying current and future deficiencies in the city’s pavement, storm drain, wastewater disposal, and street systems.

Israel Physical MapIsrael Physical Map
The Israel Physical 1:700,000-scale map series depicts Israel in aesthetic shaded relief. Planimetric details, such as roads and streams, were partially derived and generalized from the national GIS database. The purpose of this map is to provide every school student with a handy folded map portraying Israel's topography.

Volume 20: GIS—Helping Manage Our World

Tax Lot DataLinking Tax Lot and Student Record Data for School Planning—The Population Research Center at Portland State University is the demographic consultant to Portland Public Schools. Student and tax lot records are linked to be able to examine the effects of housing variables, such as tenure, number of bedrooms, and housing values, on the composition of the district's school-age population.

Volume 19: GIS—The Language of Geography

Sex Offender Proximity Analysis—The purpose of this analysis was to determine the high-risk areas within Riverside County where registered sex offenders could threaten children. To obtain this information, four different data sets were combined to locate these areas. The data sets included addresses of registered sex offenders, census block information, and locations of schools and parks.

Volume 18: Geography and GIS—Serving Our World

Seasonal Analysis of Tornado Alley

Seasonal Analysis of Tornado Alley—High School students at Bishop Dunne Catholic School in Dallas, Texas, generated and then analyzed grids using ArcView Spatial Analyst 2. Other skills practiced involved querying and clipping shapefiles and grids.




Volume 17: Geography and GIS—Sustaining Our World

College of the Atlantic, GIS Laboratory

College of the Atlantic, GIS Laboratory—Data layers shown on this map were developed by College of the Atlantic students for the listed entities. Students worked with local officials in selecting and designing color schemes for the official town maps, and official town map colors are represented on this map. This map has been well accepted by the island community and is the only map that shows the island as a whole.



The Map Book Gallery features the ESRI Map Book series dedicated to acknowledging the important and innovative accomplishments of GIS users around the world.

Published annually, each volume of the ESRI Map Book showcases a small portion of the work presented at the Map Gallery exhibition at the annual ESRI International User Conference.
