National Geographic Society

Powerful Educational Projects

For many decades, one of the leaders in helping people understand and enjoy the rich variety, complexity, and integrated nature of the world has been the National Geographic Society. Starting in 1986, NGS has been building a network of teachers across the country anxious to enhance the geographic understanding of their students. The Geography Education division at NGS helps introduce thousands of teachers each year to the delight of geography and the wonder of our world.

Each state has their own Geography Alliance. You may be able to find important contact information for people who support the use of GIS in schools by starting with the Alliance headquarters in your state.

Also, be sure to check out the National Geographic MapMachine, where you can make zillions of maps!
