NOAA Extension Products

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center has created free downloadable extensions for ArcView GIS for creating Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) compliant metadata; reading a BSB-formatted chart; and taking shoreline data standard digital data exchange format (standard digital data exchange format [SDDEF]); and creates shapefiles to depict shorelines, piers, lighthouses, roads, bridges, and the like.

The ArcView GIS Metadata Collector provides a dialog that takes the user through the FGDC's "Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata," also referred to as the green book. NOAA Nautical Chart Extension for ArcView GIS Version 3.0 allows the desktop GIS users to read a BSB-formatted chart. This freely distributed extension provides valuable software to the coastal and ocean GIS resource management community.
