Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) Special Interest Group
Tuesday, June 19, 2007
11:30 a.m.–1:15 p.m.
Room 26 B, SDCC

The 2010 census has begun! The highest elected officials of each state, local government, and federally recognized American Indian tribe have received their invitation to take what is probably the most important step they can to ensure a complete enumeration of their community—participation in the LUCA program. LUCA participants have the opportunity to review the Census Bureau's confidential list of addresses for their community and provide updates to the addresses and associated spatial data. Because the Census Bureau is providing a number of options for digital participation in LUCA, GIS practitioners can be vital contributors to this local effort. This two-hour session will include a description of the LUCA program's benefits to participating governments and a walk-through by Census Bureau experts on the ins and outs of the program. ESRI experts will demonstrate an application the company will distribute without charge to its customers for use in the LUCA review and update processes.

Census Special Interest Group

Software News

ArcGIS for AutoCAD 1.0 is now available for customer download
ArcGIS for AutoCAD is a no-cost application that installs on top of AutoCAD 2007 and provides access to ArcGIS Server map services. ArcGIS for AutoCAD provides access to every GIS vector, raster, and image format supported by ArcGIS Server through this map service view, without the need for special data connections, symbology mapping, conversion, or translation. The ArcGIS Server map service object that is created and added to your AutoCAD drawing provides access to cartographic GIS work products that may be the results of powerful ArcGIS analysis. Advanced cartography, sophisticated data management, and the benefit of the world-class GIS analysis are now all passed through this map service image object. ArcGIS for AutoCAD dynamically displays the most current versions of the included map services. The coordinates of the map services are tied to those of the AutoCAD drawing. The standard pan/zoom operations of AutoCAD also control the current visible portion of the map service to deliver functionality like scale-dependent display. Direct access to the GIS feature attributes is provided through the included IDENTIFY tool.
