GIS for Elections

GIS for Voting Machines

Creating and maintaining a statewide database of registered voters is only one component of the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). States, municipalities, and special districts need to upgrade the technology used to collect and count votes. Election departments are doing away with out dated punch cards in favor of electronic and computerized voting machines.

ESRI's GIS technology interfaces with these new voting machines. By integrating an accurate, GIS-developed voter database directly with the voting process, election officials can help ensure that voters are attending the correct polling place for their district and that each registered voter is only casting a single vote.
